Week 10

This week is our final week of work experience so the main task today was to finish our blogs and check all our assessments are highlighted so there was no confusion when checking what assessments need to be done.

Over all I think the 10 weeks we've had in work experience has benefited me a lot because it has helped me develop on my interview answering skills as well as my trade test skills. All the tutors were very understanding towards everyone's strengths and weaknesses. 

I now believe I can go out into the world of work confident on how to speak during interviews.

Week 9

On week 9 I had my mum's friend come in as I needed to complete one more makeup. She had a facial first as there was an offer for 2 for 1 on a facial and makeup. I did my assessment in the correct timings and Beth the assessor was very pleased with the look and hygiene procedures that was carried out throughout the treatment. 

Once the treatment was over and I had taken the client through to reception I then went back into the salon to find pictures for my fantasy photographic makeup look.

Week 8

Today I was so excited because we've started our photographic make up assessments! This is where my interests are strong because hair and makeup is want I want to be doing in my career. This week we had to create a bridal look. My model was my friend Nat and to create the look I did a soft makeup look with an updo hair style.

The next style is period which I am really looking forward because I am creating the 60s look.

Week 6/7

We have now been told that we allowed to bring clients in on a Wednesday as some students are behind on assessments. I have grabbed this opportunity to try and complete most of my assessments that I have missed. In week 6 I had a client come in for facial, I had already done my 3 facials but misunderstood that the three clients needed a different skin type. After that facial I had completed my facial unit HURRAY!! One more step closed to 100% on onefile.

In week 7 I was unable to find a client to come in but I still found my day productive by completing my CV. I finished off my CV by filling in my transferable skills and putting the final touching on my personal statement.

Week 5

Today I have filled in my answers for the Ragdale Hall Trade Tests/Interviews. I applied my past work experiences to the questions and used some of the advertised vocabulary used in their job advertisement.

I found this task very helpful because as it has taught me would I need to answer questions in a real interview. Then after a break we all practiced our nail painting skills. We had the choice to do red on one hand and french on the other. I believe that with the practicing we keep doing my nail painting skills are improving. 

Week 4

Today we had to under go a trade test, that challenged our practical skills as a beauty therapist. In pairs one person was a salon owner who had advertised an opening for a new therapist, the other person of course was the beauty therapist. The task given was that we were given the option whether to paint a set of hands with one colour or we could test our selves and paint one hand one colour and the other a French Manicure. As well as this we had to carry out a full manicure before painting the nails. 

Here is my station that I set up ready for my trade test, certain necessities are missing such as; cotton pads/buds and spatulas but this is because I had taken the photo after carrying out the treatment.

Week 3

Today at placement I started my CV. This CV will help me when applying for jobs in various areas. First we started by finding the website 'http://www.reed.co.uk/cvbuilder/home/begin'  and then began to put in information such as education and previous work experience.

Then we had to find a salon near where we live where we can attend once a week for work experience. The salon I found is called escape in Chesterfield town. They offer a range of treatments at affordable prices. 

I believe that having this opportunity within college to go out into the salon world on work experience will then help me in the future to get employment in a similar role of work.  

Week 2

Whilst looking for beauty blogs I came across 'Mateja's Beauty Blog' who shares her favourite cosmetics of the month to the world. As well as having a list of Beauty Blogs she can use for inspiration all of Mateja's social media information is displayed on the side bar along with her pinterest account.

She mostly blogs about make-up and nail varnishes but there are also some other handbag necessities in her blog such as dry shampoo and hand lotions. Mateja's blog layout and design is quite plain and simple but does the trick to focus on the things she is discussing in her blog. The sort of menu bar at the top is really helpful when looking for specific posts and other beauty blogs.

Another beauty blog I discovered was 'A Girl & A Beauty Blog' again the layout is very plain but this just brings focus to the bloggers posts. I prefer this blog to the previous as it seems more professional but also because she talks about make-up, skin care and products for your hair. In her 'My Makeup' drop down it shows she has make-up looks for all seasons and also a section for party make-up.

Week 1

Setting up my blog

Today I set up my blog so I can record my progress throughout my work placement. Although it was a very stressful procedure, by the end of the lesson I had set up my blog and started to write my first post. 

I believe this blog can show the evidence of each stage I under go throughout my work experience, which can then give me an advantage in the future when applying for employment. A blog also shows I have experience with using an alternative source to share information on social media.

As of yet I have not experienced any work in a salon but due to the course I am attending I believe that that will soon change. 

My views on work placement are that it will give many benefits in various roles of employment not just in a salon. Maintaining leader/team working roles and customer interaction will also assist me to become a better employee.
